Top Three Car Maintenance for the Summer

Top Three Car Maintenance for the Summer

With a change of weather, is your car ready to be driven in the summer?

Summer time is travel time. There are more people using the roads during summer time than in any other time throughout the year. Even when gas prices are at an all-time high, Americans can’t resist hitting the road when summer vacation hits. You and your family may be ready to drive to your weekend summer house, but that won’t mean much when your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Take these maintenance tips to heart when planning to drive your car during the summer.

  1. Tire pressure must be perfect. If your car’s tire pressure is not at the recommended psi level, you are going to have a bad time. An under-inflated tire bulges out and puts pressure on the sidewalls of the tires. Over time, and with enough heat and pressure, they’ll blow.
  2. Change the oil. You wouldn’t work too well without blood; likewise, your car will not work well without oil. It keeps all the engine parts running clean, smooth, and reduce friction between all the fast moving metallic parts. During the summer, your car is going to experience hot weather and even hotter engine parts. Be sure to change your oil at least every 3 months (or 3,000 miles) if you do heavy driving during the summer.
  3. Change the air filter. A dirty and clogged air filter can really lower your fuel efficiency. This is because a filter has to work harder to filter something that it would have no issue with at the beginning of its filtering life. That extra energy has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is your fuel. Replacing an air filter can improve your gas mileage by as much as 10 percent!
