Valentine’s Day is about showing your significant other how much you love them, why not do so sensually with a bit of fruit and chocolate at your fingertips?

The romantic holiday known as Valentine’s Day is upon us and a little homemade dessert can definitely go a long way. Strawberries and chocolate are nature’s sweets, and combined can create the perfect dessert. You may have a great date planned outside, but after that, some chocolate covered strawberries can do the trick to make the night perfect. Here is a great recipe on how you can make your very own chocolate covered strawberries.

16 ounces of milk chocolate chips

2 tablespoons of shortening

1 pound of strawberries with leaves

1 can of whipped cream (optional)

1 piece of Styrofoam

  1. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips and shortening. Stir occasionally until the mixture is nice and smooth.
  2. Insert toothpicks into the strawberries’ tops.
  3. Holding the strawberries by the toothpicks, dip each one about two-thirds of the way into the melted chocolate.
  4. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpicks into the Styrofoam to let the chocolate solidify and coalesce.
  5. Place a dab of whipped cream at the tip of the chocolate covered strawberry if you so wish.
